SSMK and ME:
I grew up with the television culture here in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal where the radio was surely a distant dream for me. I never tuned in to the radio as this small audio box never compelled me enough like that of the glitz and glamour of the television set.
Right after the completion of my higher secondary schooling I was wondering how was I going to pass my free time as many of my friends had already enrolled themselves into language classes and many had even landed themselves in job's a growing urge of being preoccupied bugged me daily that's when I started haunting newspapers for Job vacancies and then I came into a vacancy announcement called for the radio program 'Chatting with my best friend'.
Two rounds of interview and finally my first job as a Junior radio producer was confirmed. It came as a surprise to me when I knew that 'Chatting' was a hit radio show as this astonishment of mine was proved by the thousands of letters that the show got each month. As time flew my view of the radio program changed drastically. I had just came here to pass my time but the trust, the belief and the respect the listeners had for the program really touched me as this attribution of emotions made me understand the strength of an hour long radio program that had the strength of changing and influencing people's life. As this strength of the program of imparting life skills and proper knowledge to the Nepalese people who don't have access to communication nor modernization was the major achievement of the program.
Today, I feel lucky to have joined Chatting because it's not the fame that really overwhelms you but it's the trust you have gained and the friendship we have maintained with people we barely know but our friendship and our trust is getting even more stronger by the radio connection as SSMK broadcasts all over Nepal through more than 30 FM stations.
Its been two years now that I have been a part of Chatting with my best friend ; Today I am a radio producer and the excitement of being a part of this national sensation hasn't yet creased.
If you had not been in the radio, what would you be doing?
I would have joined the Television and would be reading evening news. I love it when the newsreader say's headlines, news in details and all technical stuff. They seem so confident and in total control. But I sometimes wonder whether the serious type news would turn hilarious if I take control of the news desk .
Who is a Youth ?:
If you believe that all the crazy things you dream will materialize one day then you are a 'Youth' ;the other lot are more pragmatic, serious and have more responsibility.
What did you want to be as a child?
I dreamed of being a dentist :) Once the dentist charged 200 RS to unplug one of my teeth. That made me wondering ! How many rupees would it be it I could unplug all the teeth out of my patient :) But later I realized that dentistry was more than unplugging teeth LOL :p
